Moi University is set to benefit from a landmark Kenya-France partnership that will strengthen dental education, science, engineering, research and innovation across Kenyan universities.
The initiative was announced during the Africa Forward: Future Makers session held at the University of Nairobi, attended by President William Ruto and his French counterpart. Emmanuel Macron.
The partnership forms part of the broader Kenya-France collaboration aimed at advancing higher education, innovation, youth employment and skills development for Africa’s digital economy.
Through an agreement between the Government of Kenya and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), financing amounting to approximately Ksh 4.6 billion (35 million Euros) has been committed to modernize science and engineering education while strengthening dental training in Kenyan universities, including Moi University.

Moi University Dental and Science Upgrade
The programme includes funding for the development of a state-of-the-art Engineering and Science Complex at the University of Nairobi, together with support for curriculum modernization, innovative teaching methods, stronger industry partnerships and expanded collaboration with leading French universities. It will also promote internationalization and increase opportunities for women pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programmes.
For Moi University, the partnership presents an opportunity to strengthen dental education through improved infrastructure, enhanced clinical training and expanded research collaboration with internationally renowned institutions.
The initiative aligns with the University’s ongoing efforts to improve learning facilities and produce graduates equipped to address emerging healthcare and technological challenges.
The collaboration complements the University’s broader infrastructure development agenda, including the planned expansion of health sciences training facilities and investments aimed at strengthening science and innovation.

Speaking during the event, President William Ruto emphasized the importance of investing in young people, noting that empowering the next generation with quality education and innovation opportunities is key to solving future challenges and accelerating national development.
The partnership is expected to enhance student and staff mobility, collaborative research, knowledge exchange and innovation while positioning Moi University among institutions driving transformative solutions in healthcare, engineering and scientific research.
