More youths from Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet, and Murang’a counties might soon be on their way to Canada for further studies.
This is after governors in the four counties on Tuesday signed agreements with several learning institutions in Canada.
According to posts on the governor’s social media pages, the agreement will open up opportunities for students wishing to study in the North American Country.
“Glad to have signed MOU with North Island College, Vancouver Island this morning that will now open doors for students from Elgeyo Marakwet to study and work in Canada,” Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich posted on his official Facebook page.

“2nd MOU signing today with Thomsons Rivers University to allow our students get the much needed affordable opportunity to study and work in Canada,” he added, in another post.
Nandi Governor Stephen Sang also shared almost a similar message, but with more details, revealing that the agreement had been signed by the four counties.
Youths take advantage
Sang who doubles up as the North Rift Economic Bloc (NOREB) chairman further expressed optimism that the youth will take advantage of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed.

“We continue to expand the Work/Study opportunities for our youth in Canada. We just penned another MoU between Nandi, Murang’a, Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet counties and our partners Thompson Rivers University, British Columbia, Canada and Elimu International Education Connection,” Sang said in a post on his verified Facebook page.
He added that “We look forward to our youth taking advantage of these negotiated opportunities in Canada.”
Sang also shared photos of him, Uasin Gishu’s Jonathan Bii Chelilim, Wisley Rotich (Elgeyo Marakwet) and Murang’as Irungu Kang’ata while in Canada, signing the MoU.

The new deal is likely to see more youth travel abroad for studies, with an already existing agreement that has been facilitating students to study in Australia.
