The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) and Elgeyo Marakwet County on November 30, 2022, held a consultative forum to explore areas of mutual interest, cooperation as well as mentorship.
According to MTRH, the move is aimed at bringing quality healthcare services closer to the people.
Addressing the meeting, MTRH Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Wilson K. Aruasa said engagement with Counties was the right thing for the realization of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) nationally.
Neurosurgery, Nursing Services, Laboratory, Nephrology, Urology, Anesthesiology, Oncology, Human Resources, Supply Chain, Information Communication and Technology are some of the disciplines that will spearhead the initial phase.
Dr Aruasa further said an MTRH team will lead a reconnaissance/in-reach visit to the County and come up with protocols to better patient care.

He also commended the long-standing relationship between MTRH and Elgeyo Marakwet County. He further urged the County to embrace a Performance Management System saying that will spur the County’s service delivery.
The CEO also said that teamwork and positive work culture are necessary for the desired transformation of Institutions and reiterated that MTRH Staff always acts proactively, in an ethical and efficient manner.

“The staff are guided by personal responsibility and accountability, key drivers of success quality services,” said Dr Aruasa.
Elgeyo Marakwet County Secretary Paul Chemuttut on his part expressed the total support of the partnership by their Leadership led by Governor Wisley Rotich.
The County Executive Committee Member for Health Michael Kibiwwot hailed the forum saying it is the avenue to help healthcare workers from the County acquire skills from their MTRH counterparts.
MTRH CEO also urged for a visible and supportive leadership that inspires workers to be highly productive.
He further challenged the County Health Department to plan for training on technical and management skills so that staff acquire crucial skills which can influence positive culture change.
