The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Philip Kirwa on Friday, December 22, 2023, handed over the sites for the construction of Juli Anne Perry Pediatric Cancer Hospital as well as Harry J. Dyer Burns Hospital to the Contractor.
Accompanying the acting CEO was Toby Tanser, the CEO of Shoe4Africa Foundation – the Project Sponsor for the Pediatric Cancer Hospital.
Toby also represented the Sidekick Foundation who are the sponsors for the Harry J. Dyer Burns Hospital.
The 162-bed Juli Anne Perry Pediatric Cancer Hospital will have; wards, outpatient clinics with chemotherapy suites, ICUs and theaters for comprehensive pediatric cancer treatment while the 62-bed Harry J. Dyer Burns Hospital will be adjacent to the Paediatric Cancer Hospital.
The three hospitals will form the Children Village Complex which will be the biggest children’s Hospital in Africa.
Dr. Kirwa, while handing over the sites, thanked the project sponsors for their service to humanity and unwavering commitment to supporting the health and well-being of the patients.
MTRH expansion of infrastructure
He also thanked the Board for their guidance and the Ministry of Health as well as the Government for their support which has allowed an enabling environment for the Hospital’s expansion of infrastructure in the journey to achieving Universal Health Coverage.
Toby Tanser on his part was grateful for the support he has received from MTRH, the Ministry of Health and Government of Kenya that made the realization of both projects.
Construction of the two projects will commence in January 2024 and is expected to be ready by mid-2025.
Also present during the handing-over ceremony were the Hospital Management Team led by the acting Senior Director of Clinical Services, Dr. Owen Menach.
