The National Assembly is set to resume its sittings this Tuesday, September 24, 2024.
Among the Bills up for debate are the Mung Beans Bill, 2023 which seeks to regulate the production, processing, and marketing of mung beans in Kenya, the Coffee Bill, 2023 which seeks to modernize the coffee industry and improve the livelihoods of coffee farmers and the Technopolis Bill, 2024 that aims to establish tech hubs in Kenya to promote innovation and technology development.
The National Assembly will also consider Senate amendments to the Food and Feed Safety Control Coordination Bill, 2023 at second reading stage and Committee of the Whole House.
Additionally, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2024 which proposes amendments to strengthen the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and enhance its effectiveness in combating corruption and the Kenya National Library Service Bill, 2023 which seeks to establish a comprehensive legal framework for the Kenya National Library Service are slated for consideration by the House.
A motion on policy and funding for sugarcane farming sponsored by MP Peter Nabulindo and a, motion on comprehensive reform of education bursary schemes by Nairobi County Woman MP Esther Passaris are also scheduled for debate.
Reports to be considered by MPs
Several Reports are expected to be considered by Members of the National Assembly including a Report of the Select Committee on Parliamentary Broadcasting and Library on enhancing Reporting of Parliamentary Business on Online Platforms and a Report of the Public Debt and Privatization Committee on the Consolidated Fund Services Expenditures for the Supplementary Estimates I for the Fiscal Year 2024/2025.
Legislators will also debate a Report of the Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations on its consideration of the Protocol to the constitutive act of the African Union relating to the Pan-African Parliament.
The African Union protocol relating to the Pan-African Parliament aims to provide a voice for African people and the diaspora, promote AU policies, human rights, democracy, good governance, and cooperation.
In the course of the week, Members of Parliament will seek statements on urgent matters including a request for statement by MP Oku Kaunya regarding delayed delivery of training equipment to Chamasiri Technical and Vocational College, MP Owen Baya will seek details on the implementation of a nuclear power plant in Kilifi North, and John Kiarie will request for a statement on the renewal of standardization marks from the Kenya Bureau of Standards.
