Mutei Grannies: Uasin Gishu Elderly Women’s Club Aiming for Football Greatness

A group of elderly women from Uasin Gishu are looking to pen history as they prepare for an international football tournament in South Africa later on in April.

The Mutei Grannies Football Club is shrugging off the effects of aging tendons and muscles, now readying to write history in football.

The team from Kamaua sub-location in Tembelio Ward, Uasin Gishu is determined to break the glass ceiling and upset the age factor in the event.

The women are aged between 50 and 70 years.

In a friendly match against Millenium Ladies, who are their daugheters and granddaughters, the grannies held their ground, later losing 1-0 in the last minutes of the match.

It was utmost gratifying seeing the grandmother footballers, at their age, play for 93 minutes.

Uasin Gishu County Executive for Sports, Eng Lucy Ng’endo and her Assistant Director of Sports, Viola Korir witnessed the Wednesday afternoon action.

Governor Dr Jonathan Bii will on Thursday host and flag off the team for a television show in Nairobi.
