Police officers in Uasin Gishu County are holding eight suspects arrested in different parts of the county following a series of operations targeting individuals believed to be behind a syndicate involved in the sale of counterfeit fertiliser.
County Police Commander Wilberforce Sicharani on Sunday, July 26, 2026, told journalists that the suspects were arrested in Kabenes, Ziwa Machine and Kabenes areas.
“Investigations are ongoing, and we are likely to arrest more suspects. We recovered 500 bags in Moiben, and they are now at the Ainaptich Police Station. Here, we found about 4,000 bags. Another 74 bags were recovered in an operation within Ziwa Machine,” Sicharani said.
At the homestead of one of the suspects, already with an active court case related to counterfeit fertiliser sale, over 4,000 bags were recovered.
Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Dr Eddyson Nyale said the bags, suspected to have been repackaged, were to be sold to farmers in Narok County.
“This is not the first case. We now have a strong case against one of the suspects. What we have here will be used to tighten evidence against the culprit,” Dr Nyale said.
According to the police, the bags recovered are of various fertiliser brands including MEA, TURBO and SSP. Detectives are now probing the source of the fertilisers.
“We don’t know where the fertiliser is from, and that is why we are carrying out investigations to establish that. As a government, we will work together to ensure those behind this illegal trade are arrested and prosecuted,” the police boss assured.
