The County Government of Nandi in collaboration with Ruhestroth Foundation is set to established a Waste Sorting Plant that will largely tame persistent problem of solid waste in the county.
The move to set up the plant comes at a time the county government is in need of waste management.
Speaking during the meeting Nandi County Secretary Dr Francis Sang said that the county government welcomes the partnership with Faundation adding that that the move is timely.
“As government we are entirely in need of waste management and collaborating together is timely,” Sang said.
According to Rohestroth Foundation representative Josses Karani Edwin the physical implementation of the project is set to hit the road running early January 2024.
He also affirmed that the foundation is fully committed to work closely with the county government to see the project completed and operational.
Waste Sorting Plant not only sorts the menace of solid waste but also will be a game changer as it will create job opportunities employing excess of 100 people directly, the plant will also produce soil and plant compatible fertilizer that will be available to farmers at subsidized price.
In addition, the plant will yield electric power benefiting the plant itself and also the neighborhing community.
Present at the meeting were the CECM Member for Lands, Environment and Natural Resources Dr Philemon Bureti, CECM Member for Administration Isaiah Ketter, Chief Officer for Finace Priscah Muigei, Chief Officer for ICT Jonathan Misoi and his Agriculture counterpart Dr Paul Sanga.
Minority Leader Eliud Kirongo, Kapsabet Municipality Manager Ng’eny, and Director Kaimosi ATC Dr Kachilei were also in attendance.
