The County Government of Nandi continues to give emphasis to programmes that support People Living with Disabilities (PWDs).
Through the Department of Sports,Youth Affairs, Culture, Gender, and Social Welfare, in collaboration with Bethany Relief and Rehabilitation International, a medical assessment, issuance, and repair of various assistive devices for the persons living with disabilities were conducted.
The department, as per its mandate of enhancing social protection and access to social services through the issuance of assistive technologies, carried out the activity from March 25 to 27 in Chepkumia, Kemeloi, and Tachasis School for the Physically Handicapped in Tinderet.

Speaking at the event, the Director for Gender and Social Welfare stated that the issuance of wheelchairs by the by the County Government of Nandi not only improves mobility and enhances the involvement and participation of PWDs in all development agendas but also acts as a dignity-affirming gesture.
Raise awareness on PWDs issues
The exercise was also used to raise awareness on all the issues of representation and welfare of PWDs in the county.
In addition, community members were encouraged to come out and take their loved ones for assessment at the Kapsabet County Referral Hospital in order to enable them to obtain assistive devices, access other necessities that ease their day-to-day lives, and register, which will facilitate their enlistment for possible assistance according to their specific needs.
Further, the PWDs will benefit from their constitutional rights, such as exemption from taxes.

Also present during the event were the department staff, respective ward administrators, chiefs, and Bethany Kids medical personnel.
