A section of Muslim leaders in the North Rift region has asked all government workers to accept and give in to President William Ruto’s proposal on the Housing Fund.
Speaking to the media, CIPK Chairman Abubakar Bini said the fund will help build housing units for workers across the country.
According to Bini, the proposed 3 per cent deduction is a drop in the ocean for civil servants’ salaries.
He says the Housing Fund will ensure the government develops better housing units for every Kenyan.

The government has proposed that every civil worker contributes three per cent to the housing fund that will be used in the construction of affordable housing units.
The proposal has received opposition from a section of Kenyans and political leaders allied with the Azimio One Kenya Coalition.
Houses for hustlers
But according to the Muslim leader, the plan will help ‘hustlers’ own land.
“Just like the fingers of our hands, all of us are not equal; therefore we have the fortunate and the less fortunate. I beg the fortuned to accept this proposal to allow the less unfortunate to get cheap houses. This deduction is just like breakfast to most government employees,” Bini said.
He further said that the houses the government plans to build will help the unable government workers to get cheap housing of their own which they can also use to get income by renting them out.

The housing program, Bini says, will help in reducing congestion in the slummy zones and increase the development of the country.
The Affordable Housing Program has been one of the key Kenya Kwanza development agendas.
President William Ruto has set a target of building at least 250,000 housing units across the country annually under the program.
In Nairobi City County alone, Ruto is targeting to build up to 100,000 houses.
Since he took over leadership in September 2022, the President has presided over the launch of construction works for several housing units in over five counties, among them Nairobi, Machakos, Mombasa and Homa Bay.
