NYS Set to Take Over 700-Kilometre Uasin Gishu Road Upgrade Programme

The County Government of Uasin Gishu is set to roll out a major road maintenance and upgrade programme targeting 30 wards across the county.

The initiative aims to rehabilitate and upgrade over 700 kilometres of roads through a new partnership between the County Government and the National Youth Service (NYS).

On Tuesday, January 13, 2026, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Roads, Transport and Public Works, Abraham Serem, together with Chief Officer Geoffrey Tanui, held a special project kick-off meeting with road engineers and inspectors to plan and discuss effective implementation strategies for the programme.

Our main objective through this collective initiative is to rehabilitate and complete the roads before the onset of heavy rains. It is our wish that we succeed,” said CECM Serem.

According to Serem, the county expects the NYS to provide six graders, six excavators, and 36 tippers to support the project.

The implementation teams will be divided into three lots. Each lot will be allocated 12 tippers, two excavators, two graders, and one roller.

The first lot comprises Langas, Racecourse, Huruma, Kimumu, Kuinet/Kapsuswa, Kapsoya, Karuna Meibeki, Kapsaos, Moiben, Tembelio, and Sergoit wards.

Lot Two includes Soy, Segero/Barsombe, Ziwa, Kipsomba, Mois Bridge, Kapkures, Kiplombe, Ng’enyilel, Kamagut, and Tapsagoi wards.

The third lot will cover Kipkenyo, Kapseret, Megun, Ngeria, Tulwet/Chuiyat, Tarakwa, Ainabkoi/Olare, Cheptiret, and Kaptagat wards.

The Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) seeks to rehabilitate roads, particularly those damaged or rendered impassable by heavy rains, within the shortest time possible.

We need to deliver the project within the shortest time possible. If a ward is allocated 20 kilometres, let us ensure the full 20 kilometres are completed,” Chief Officer Tanui emphasised.
