Construction works for the first ever children’s cancer hospital in Sub Saharan Africa are progressing well.
The state-of-the-art Pediatric Cancer Hospital is being constructed at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
The project is financed by the Shoe4Africa Foundation in partnership with the Kenyan Government.
According to latest photos of the project which is set to enhance access to cancer treatment for children in the region, major works are nearing completion.

Groundbreaking for the hospital took place in January 2024, marking a historic milestone in strengthening child-centered cancer care.
How big is the Pediatric Cancer Hospital at MTRH?
When completed, the Eldoret Pediatric Cancer Hospital will host 152 beds exclusively to children aged 14 years and below, easing congestion at existing units and ensuring that young patients receive specialized attention.
Currently, children with cancer are already managed by pediatric oncologists at the Shoe4Africa Children’s Hospital.
However, upon completion, the new hospital will provide purpose-built pediatric oncology services, including infection prevention barriers, isolation facilities and automated chemotherapy preparation and administration systems, thereby elevating the quality and safety of care.
“This will be the first public pediatric oncology hospital in the region, both in the public and private sector, a game-changer for cancer treatment in Kenya and beyond,” noted Interior Principal Secretary Dr Raymond Omollo.

The facility will also feature learning spaces and play areas for children undergoing long-term care, creating a healing environment that nurtures both the body and mind.
It will also serve as a training and capacity-building hub for medical students and professionals, ensuring a continuous pipeline of expertise in pediatric oncology.
Former World marathon record holder Paula Radcliffe, her daughter Isla Lough and Shoe4Africa Foundation Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Toby Tanser were part of those who helped raise funds for the Pediatric Cancer Hospital.
