President William Ruto has unveiled a major infrastructure breakthrough for Western Kenya, announcing the extension of the Rironi-Mau Summit road all the way to the Malaba border.
The landmark declaration was made during a high-level meeting at State House, Nairobi, with grassroots leaders from Bungoma County, led by Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa.
According to President Ruto, the ambitious project will create a seamless transport corridor linking central Kenya through Eldoret and Bungoma before terminating at the Ugandan border.

This expansion is poised to revolutionise trade and connectivity for the entire region, significantly reducing transit times for agricultural produce and manufactured goods.
By integrating Eldoret into this strategic route, the government aims to unlock the economic potential of the entire western corridor, easing congestion and boosting regional commerce.
While the road expansion is the headline act, the President also outlined a broader development agenda for the area. The announcement confirmed a KSh 30 billion investment for affordable housing in Bungoma, including a 18,000-unit smart city, alongside KSh 8 billion earmarked for a new Level 6 hospital.

Furthermore, recent reforms in the sugar sector have been highlighted for ensuring that cane farmers are now paid well and on time.
“We are transforming the face of Bungoma through deliberate projects and programmes,” Ruto said.
With the road expansion set to serve as the economic backbone for these initiatives, the focus now shifts to rapid implementation to deliver these transformative benefits to the people of Bungoma, Eldoret, and the wider region.
