It was a bad day in the office for two promotion contenders in the FKF Women Division One League – Bungoma Queens and Kisped – after losing to mid-table competitors.

Bungoma Queens lost 2-1 away at Kisumu-based Kolwa Falcons while Kisped were edged out by Uasin Gishu’s Gene Queens on a similar margin.

The loss was the second consecutive for the Sang’alo Technical Training Institute side which has now dropped to fourth in the table.

They lost to Madira Girl’s Soccer Assassins last weekend at home.

But with the two promotion contenders dropping points, Homa Bay-based Gideons Starlets took the advantage to extend their lead with a win.

Playing at their Opanga Primary School Grounds, Starlets silenced Kimathi Lionesses 2-0 to open the gap at the top to four points.

They now have 43 points from 19 matches played.

Meanwhile, the secondary school outfit Soccer Assassins joined the promotion contest with a 2-1 win against Eldoret Falcons.

The win moved them third on the log with 37 points one ahead of Bungoma Queens whom they beat last weekend.

Kisped remains second with 39 points after 18 games played.

Relegation battle

At the other end of the table, Langas-based Solasa Stima kept alive their bid to move out of relegation with a second win in a row.

They edged out Rongai Eaglets 2-0.

Following the loss, Rongai Eaglets head coach Recks Okoth said, “I thank my girls for playing well despite the loss, we arrived 15 minutes to kickoff and that affected us largely.”

“I’m struggling alone with this team, basically I got to train and fund the team single-handedly and at times i lack finances. FKF should do more than just pay for match officiating fees,” he added.

Solasa is now 9th with 18 points after 18 matches – 6 points behind 8th placed Gene Queens FC.

Solasa head coach Johnson Kimungui was happy over the weekend win.

“We dropped lots of points early in the second leg but we have had time to rebuild and recover lost points.”

“We are working on getting at least four or five wins in the remaining matches in order to get out of the relegation cut line. My greatest assignment now is to remain in this tier for next season.”

Upcoming matches

The FKF Women Division One Zone B League continues over the weekend with Kitale-based Royal Starlets hosting second-placed Kisped.

In addition, the biggest clash of the weekend will see table leaders Gideons Starlets travel to Sang’alo Institute to face fellow promotion-chasing side Bungoma Queens.
