Rains, Heat and Cold Nights to Mark End-Year Weather, Met Warns

Kenya is set to experience a mixed weather pattern as the year comes to a close.

According to the latest forecast by the Kenya Meteorological Department, rains, high daytime temperatures and cold nights are expected in different parts of the country between December 30, 2025 and January 5, 2026,

The weatherman says rainfall will persist in several regions at the beginning of the week, particularly over the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, parts of North-western and North-eastern Kenya, the Coastal strip and the South-eastern lowlands.

Residents in these areas should brace for isolated thunderstorms and episodes of heavy rainfall, especially during the first half of the week. However, the weather is expected to improve gradually, with predominantly sunny and dry conditions forecast across most parts of the country towards the weekend.

Meanwhile, hot conditions will dominate daytime hours, with maximum temperatures exceeding 30°C in the Coastal region, North-eastern and North-western Kenya, sections of the South-eastern lowlands, parts of the Rift Valley and Western Kenya.

At the same time, cold nights are expected in several high-altitude regions, with minimum temperatures dropping below 10°C in parts of the Central Highlands, North and Central Rift Valley, Western Kenya and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has urged the public to remain vigilant and keep track of daily updates, warning that the combination of heavy rainfall, intense heat and cold nights could affect health, agriculture and transport.

Kenyans have been encouraged to follow official weather advisories through the department’s website, county forecasts and digital platforms to stay informed and prepared as the festive season comes to an end.
