Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) has received a donation of wheelchairs and crutches from Safaricom Foundation in partnership with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
The donation is aimed at reinforcing a shared commitment to improving outcomes for road crash victims and vulnerable patients.
The handover ceremony, led by MTRH Chief Executive Officer Dr. Philip Kirwa, held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, marks another milestone in a four-year collaboration focused on strengthening emergency response and rehabilitation services.

Representatives from the NTSA Road Safety Committee highlighted the tangible impact of the partnership, noting that access to mobility aids plays a critical role in patient recovery and dignity following road traffic injuries.
NTSA reaffirmed its commitment to sustained collaboration with MTRH and Safaricom Foundation to advance road safety interventions and reduce the incidents of accidents on Kenyan roads.
Safaricom Foundation commended MTRH for its leadership in delivering quality healthcare and its responsiveness to critical emergencies, emphasizing the Foundation’s continued investment in initiatives that directly benefit patients and frontline health systems.

“This support goes beyond equipment—it restores mobility, dignity, and hope for our patients,” said Dr. Philip Kirwa, MTRH CEO.
“The demand for assistive devices such as wheelchairs and crutches remains significant, particularly among road traffic accident victims,” he added.
Present at the event were: Safaricom Foundation team led by Brenda Chesingei, NTSA team led by Edith Akasiba and MTRH Road Safety Mainstreaming Committee led by the Chair, Christine Tonui.
