Three Recruits Die During Training at Eldoret’s Defence Forces Recruits Training School

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has announced the tragic death of three recruits.

In a statement issued on Friday, January 30, 2926, KDF said the recruits died during a scheduled training activity at the Defence Forces Recruits Training Schools (DFRTS) in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, on January 29, 2026.

The recruits developed medical complications while participating in a routine endurance exercise,” KDF said.

After the incident, immediate medical assistance was administered to the three by inside medical personnel before they were evacuated to Eldoret Regional Hospital for advanced medical care.

Regrettably, they were pronounced dead despite concerted efforts by the attending medical teams,” KDF said.

Families of the deceased recruits have been notified, and the KDF said it is providing necessary support and assistance.

Meanwhile, a thorough investigation has been initiated as per established military procedures to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Findings will inform any necessary measures to enhance the safety and welfare of personnel undergoing training,” KDF said even as it affirmed its commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety, professionalism and care for all its personnel.

The recruits are part of those who have been undergoing training since November 2025, when they reported following a nationwide recruitment exercise.
