Trans Nzoia County to Employ 156 ECDE Teachers

The County Government of Trans Nzoia will next year employ a total of 156 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers in a move to bolster the foundation of early learners.

Governor George Natembeya disclosed that the county administration will be recruiting 133 ECDE teachers and replacing 23 others who will either be retiring or out due to natural attrition.

Speaking in Chepchoina during the Governor’s Kikao (a forum for the Governor to engage one-on-one with the people) on Thursday, Natembeya affirmed that the exercise will commence soon.

He also pointed out that the exercise has been budgeted for in the current financial year and that, other than enhancing the foundation of early learners, it was also given employment opportunities.

Meanwhile, the County Boss announced that his administration has allocated Ksh70 million towards the Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) learners’ feeding program beginning in January.

Natembeya noted the need to enhance the foundation of young learners by providing them with relevant needs.

He pointed out that Endebbes Sub County had been listed as the worst hit by malnutrition among children across the entire county citing that the program will come in handy for milk has high nutritious value.

Implementation of the program will play a key role in helping boost the nutrition of ECDE learners as well as increasing their morale in attending school sessions hence lowering absenteeism levels.

Further, the County boss said that from January 2024, every ECDE learner will receive a packet of milk twice per week as part of a nutrition enhancement program.

He emphasized on the importance of providing nutritious supplements to young learners which benefits them by aiding their growth and development.

In addition, the governor urged parents and guardians to prioritize their children’s education by ensuring they attend school regularly. He emphasized that not only would these young learners get an education but also benefit from nutritional support provided through the milk provision initiative.

He also called for concerted efforts from all education stakeholders to ensure that the children have access to quality education and adequate nutrition.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to support initiatives aimed at improving the education experience and welfare of children in ECDE centres.
