Residents of Moiben Village, Kiptenden farm in Cherang’any Constituency Trans Nzoia County on Wednesday woke up to the shocking news of defilement and murder of a three-year old girl.
It’s alleged that the heinous act was committed by the girl’s father.
Kibuswo sub location Assistant Chief Gilbert Chepsiror told journalists that Caleb Chemonges, the father of the deceased has since been arrested in connection with the incident.
“Officers from Cherang’any Police Station are doing investigations. Our preliminary investigations indicates that the father of the girl committed the offence and he is helping the police in investigations,” Chepsiror confirmed.
The administrator said although it is not clear how the three-old was murdered, the culprit might have strangled her to death.
“It is shocking how this innocent kid met her death. It appears that after committing the heinous act, the prime suspect took the body and dipped it inside water and later dropped it along his neighbour’s fence,” he added.
The suspect is said to have dipped the body inside water probably to destroy evidence of his indecent act.
Disturbance in the village
Reports indicate that the culprit divorced his wife, Celestine Chepng’etich in 2019 when the deceased was six months old and she was left under the of her paternal grandmother.
Since then, the man is said to have been the source of mayhem and disturbance in Moiben village.
“This man has been accused of several criminal offences including stealing, house breaking, assault among other offences in the village,” the area chief said.
He further called on residents to volunteer any information they know about the incident to police officers or even village administrators to help in investigations.
Bonface Wanyoike, a human rights defender working with Justice and Peace Centre condemned the incident and called for speedy investigation so that justice is served to the deceased.
“It very sad that we have beasts in some men because surely how do you do such an act to your biological daughter?” Wanyoike asked.
The body has been taken to Kitale County Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
