Trans Nzoia Deputy Governor Philomenah Kapkory has accused some staff attached to the office of the governor of threatening her.
In a letter to he governor George Natembeya, Kapkory says as a result of the threats, she fears for her life.
The DG shared some of the alleged threatening messages in the letter dated October 4, 2023.
She claims Natembeya was aware of the said threats.
Subsequently, the deputy County noted that she is not able to discharge her duties from the county headquarters in Kitale town.

She feels her security is highly compromised.
“Based on this and many other threatening messages towards me from your staff and of which you are aware of, I fear for my life,” Kapkory said in part of the letter seen by Uasin Gishu News.
Push for Mount Elgon County
“My security at the County is highly compromised and therefore, I will not be able to discharge my duties from the County for now until further notice,” she added.
It is believed the threats are related to Kapkory’s silence over the push for the creation of Mount Elgon County.
The DG hails from the Sabaot Community which is pushing to have a county of their own.
While Natembeya has openly opposed proposals to hive part of the Trans Nzoia County to create room for the new devolved unit, Kapkory has remained mum on the matter.

But with the said threats from staff attached to the governor’s staff, the county’s second in command says she will only be available on phone or email.
Further, she has requested to be allowed to work from the county office in Nairobi, if there’s any.
“I am available on phone and email and if there’s a County office in Nairobi 1 can work from here until I am convinced that it is safe to come,” Kapkory said in the letter addressed to Natembeya.
