/

The County Government of Uasin Gishu has partnered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) in an exercise that seeks to ensure all health facilities adhere to the sets laws and regulations

This follows concerns over an influx in unregistered medical facilities operating within the county.

As a way of address the concerns Deputy Governor Eng John Barorot said they have been inspecting all the facilities to check on their compliance.

He says the operation has so far seen at least 36 health facilities that were operating without being registered closed.

15 suspects have also been arrested and are expected to be arraigned in court to answer to charges of operating unregistered medical facilities.

Meanwhile, DG Barorot has urged residents to seek medical assistance from registered facilities only.

Collaboration with regulatory bodies

He also highlighted the crucial role of monitoring in ensuring the quality and legality of healthcare services while also urging all that operate health facilities to comply with the necessary regulations.

In addition, Uasin Gishu Health Services CECM Dr. Abraham Serem said that the County remains committed to providing easily accessible and quality healthcare services to its residents by fostering collaboration with regulatory bodies like KMPDC.

The two spoke when they hosted officials from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC). They are in the County for an inspection of health facilities.

The purpose of the courtesy call was to provide the County leadership with an update on their activities.

During the meeting, Eng Barorot revealed the County’s plans to invest in diagnostic services in collaboration with KMPDC.

According to Director Corporate Services KMPDC Mr. Philip Olekamwaro, one can verify whether a health facility, a doctor or a community oral health officer attending to him/he has been licensed to operate through an SMS short code.

This is after the council introduced 20547 as the short code through which the public can verify the status of a medical practitioner.

To verify the licensure of a health facility, send an SMS to 20547 in the format H# followed by the full name of the facility or H# followed by the registration number of the facility,” Olekamwaro explained.
