In a significant step towards enhancing cancer care and promoting equity in healthcare services, the County Government of Uasin Gishu on Monday hosted officials from the Swedish Government in a move aimed at strengthening collaboration and sharing insights to address the rising prevalence of cancer cases in the region.
During the meeting, Health Services County Executive Dr. Abraham Serem expressed satisfaction with the fruitful collaboration between the Swedish Government and the County by highlighting the importance of early screening and detection to effectively manage and treat these cases.
“The exchange of information and technology was identified as crucial in improving cancer care services and ensuring better patient outcomes,” said Dr Serem.
The CECM further noted that cervical, prostate and breast cancers are among the most prevalent forms of cancer, therefore the a need for deeper engagement and research to better understand the root causes and risk factors associated with these diseases.
Professor Mining from Moi University highlighted the pivotal role of primary healthcare in demystifying the causes of cancer and promoting early diagnosis and appropriate management strategies.
“I want to emphasize the importance of educating the public on health promotion and treatment options while advocating for enhanced cancer research initiatives to drive progress in cancer care,” he said.
Promotive and Preventive Health Chief Officer Dr Paul Wangwe added that by focusing on early detection, proper management, and continual research, the stakeholders underscored the importance of enhancing cancer care services and improving outcomes for patients across the County.
