How Uasin Gishu Road Upgrade Programme is Boosting Local Economy

/

The ongoing road upgrade program in Uasin Gishu County has recorded a positive economic impact.

One of the impacts is enabling tomato farmers in Karuna Meibeki Ward to move their perishables faster to the market in Eldoret town.

The roads improvement plan is thus reducing post harvest losses to also wheat and maize famers as experienced before, a fulfillment of Governor Dr Jonathan Bii’s promise to enhance the road network under the sixth pillar of his development plan on infrastructure development.

For the last few months alone, the programs have been successful in many wards such as Kuinet Kapsuswa, Karuna Meibeki, Soy, Tarakwa, Langas, and Simat Kapseret.

This has reduced transport costs and time of travelling for those locals who commute from home.

The program has further contributed to many investors opening businesses in trading centres away from the City, improved security and enhanced access to other services.

On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Uasin Gishu County Executive Committee Member for Roads Abraham Serem, Chief Officer Geoffrey Tanui, Roads Director Eng Julius Ronoh and his deputy Eng Linus Yego briefed members of the County Assembly committee on roads about the strides made and progress of the programs.
