The County Government of Uasin Gishu continues with clearing of drainages and unblocking Culverts in areas affected by floods due to the ongoing heavy rains across Kenya.
The county machinery did various activities including digging of extra water drainages and expanding natural waterways in Jasho area, Ngeria Ward, Kapseret Sub County.
Roads, Transport and Public Works County Executive Eng. Joseph Lagat says the work which started in Cheptiret/Kipchamo ward will continue in all affected areas to improve the flow of water and in turn prevent flooding in the county as rains continue to pound the area.

The exercise is also being carried out in other worst-hit areas like Langas, Kimumu and Kamagut wards following the recent heavy rains that pounded the region and wreaked havoc across the country.
Flood-free environment
County Roads Executive, Eng Lagat, added that the move is aimed at ensuring all the affected areas are drained properly with the commitment to ensuring a flood-free environment.
“We have prioritized the most affected areas in the clearing of garbage in streams to ensure free flow of water downstream,” said the CECM.
Residents of Langas Estate led by Andrew Mirimo, Jane Njoki and Romanus Odero said the floods affected households in Yamumbi, Blocks 2 and 4 in Kisumu Ndogo, Maranatha, Mtaro and Segero Baptist areas destroying property.

They urged the county government to construct new two Box Culverts in the area.
