The county government of Uasin Gishu has commenced a series of engagements aimed at finding a better mechanism of resolving the prolonged conflicts among members of Burnt Forest Travellers Sacco and 2Ways Sacco whose Matatus ply Eldoret -Burnt forest route.
On Monday, June 16, 2025, Roads County Executive Committee Member (CECM) Dr Abraham Serem, held a round table meeting with officials from the conflicting SACCOS to try and find potential solutions to address their issues.
The move is also aimed at ensuring public protection at the stage is enhanced as well as avoid scrambling over passengers and ensure security for everyone.
During the meeting, CECM Dr Serem affirmed Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim’s call for peace, healthy competition, cohesion and unity among leaders, business people and the community at large to accelerate and support this progress.

“As an administration, we are keen to promoting transparency, equity, equality, accountability and fair practices within Saccos.We are also working to strengthen the enforcement of traffic laws and regulations, aiming to create a more level playing field for all Matatu operators in Eldoret City,” Dr Serem stated.
Initially, Burnt Forest Travellers Sacco and 2Ways Sacco operated under one name – Burnt Forest Sacco and their disputes have related to route allocation, management practices slots allocation at Sosiani Bus station.
They are also before an Eldoret court over an assault case that is yet to be resolved.
The CECM said he will continue to engage the team and other stakeholders to help streamline their operations and resolve the conflicts inorder to improve service delivery for commuters.

The county government of Uasin Gishu has implemented several projects which benefit the Matatu sector including rehabilitation of the Eldoret main bus park, construction of a new bus station at Fims area, improvement of drainage systems in bus parks like Sosiani and Trocadero as well as roll out of smart traffic lights in Eldoret City to help reduce congestion and enhance efficiency in transportation
