As the 2027 General Election campaign season draws near, individuals eyeing various elective seats across the country are already putting together a strategy they hope will help them emerge victorious.
In Uasin Gishu, aside from the gubernatorial seat race, another closely monitored contest is that of the Senate seat. The seat is currently being held by former Governor Jackson Mandago, who is serving his first term. However, over five aspirants have expressed interest in unseating him.
Aspirants in Uasin Gishu Senate race
Uasin Gishu News takes a look at the profiles of those seeking to make Mandago a one-term Senator.
Isaac Terer
So far, Terer has emerged as Mandago’s strongest competitor for the senatorial race. Coincidentally, the two worked together at the inception of devolution.
When Mandago was the Uasin Gishu governor between 2013 and 2017, Terer, who is a lawyer, served as the Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker.
“In 2027, by God’s grace I will vie for the Senate seat, and when the time comes, please vote for me so that we give my brother (Mandago) promotion to go and work with the president or we allow him to rest,” the former County Assembly Speaker said in one of his recent public addresses.

Isaac Kipchumba Nyongiot
Also in the race to unseat Mandago is Isaac Kipchumba Nyongiot, a youthful aspirant who has gained traction for the use of a tuk-tuk in his campaigns.
He promises integrity, accountability and service delivery as some of the key values of his Senate aspirations.
Victor Chepkelat
Victor Chepkelat is another aspirant in the Uasin Gishu Senate seat race. According to his social media pages, Chepkelat is an International Relations and Development expert and Zero Barefoot Campaign and Environment Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Others in the race include Dr Catherine Barmao, Valentine Jepkosgei and Elsie Jahenda Aluda. Most of the aspirants are in the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and are likely to face off in what is expected to be a hotly contested nomination.
