Uasin Gishu County Receives 22 Special Vaccine Fridges to Boost Immunization Efforts

The County Government of Uasin Gishu in partnership with UNICEF and the National Vaccines and Immunization Program has flagged off the delivery of 22 state-of-the-art vaccine fridges worth 22 million.

The specialized fridges are designed to maintain optimal vaccine storage temperatures for up to eight days without power, ensuring that essential immunizations reach every child, even in the most remote areas.

This latest donation follows the successful deployment of 51 similar fridges last year, which were distributed to health facilities across the county. The new batch will also be delivered to both public and private healthcare facilities, further expanding the reach of vital immunization programs.

Speaking during the flag-off, Health Services County Executive Dr Abraham Serem emphasized the critical importance of immunization in the fight against preventable diseases, particularly among children.

Immunization is a key pillar in our health strategy, and by ensuring that every child receives the full range of vaccines, we aim to eliminate communicable diseases and protect future generations,” said Dr Serem.

He said the delivery of these fridges is part of the ongoing efforts to implement the governor’s second pillar on his Nguzo Kumi blueprint, which aims to improve healthcare accessibility across both urban and rural settings.

He added that through the enhancements of vaccine storage capacity, the initiative ensures that no child is left behind when it comes to receiving life-saving immunizations.

Director of Health Services Dr Evans Kiprotich noted that these strategic deliveries are expected to significantly improve the county’s immunization coverage, ensuring that vaccines are safely stored and distributed to every child, regardless of location.

This development underscores the county’s commitment to delivering on its promise of equitable healthcare services to all its residents, in line with the governor’s vision outlined in the Nguzo Kumi Manifesto,” added Dr Kiprotich.

For his part, EPI Coordinator Joshua Masai said that the residents can now look forward to a healthier, more resilient future as the county continues to prioritize immunization as a key pillar to safeguard the health of its youngest citizens.

Among the faciities to benefit include Ngoisa Dispensary, Kapkoros Dispensary, Koitoror Dispensary, Palm Care Hospital and St. Monica Karuna Dispensary.
