The County Government of Uasin Gishu has launched a major initiative to enhance livestock health and productivity through the renovation of 102 cattle dips, refurbishment of the main slaughterhouse, and construction of a poultry house in Soy Sub County.
The project, spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture, Agribusiness, Livestock, and Fisheries, aims to strengthen disease prevention measures and improve farmers’ economic returns.
Speaking during a familiarization meeting with contractors, Chief Officer for Livestock Development and Fisheries Nixon Cheplong reaffirmed the county’s commitment to boosting livestock health and productivity.

“We want to ensure farmers benefit economically by effectively controlling livestock diseases. This initiative will significantly enhance livestock health and, in turn, improve productivity,” said Cheplong.
He urged contractors to expedite the renovations and construction, emphasizing the importance of adhering to set timelines. He also highlighted the initiative’s role in advancing the first agenda of Nguzo Kumi—a county strategy for combating livestock diseases.
Veterinary Services Director Dr. Philip Biamah echoed Cheplong’s sentiments, stating that the designated sites will be handed over to contractors within the coming week, allowing work to begin immediately.

“We expect all stakeholders to execute their responsibilities in line with the bill of quantities, ensuring adherence to quality standards for long-term benefits,” Dr. Biamah noted.
The project aligns with Uasin Gishu County’s broader agricultural development agenda, aimed at safeguarding livestock health, improving meat hygiene standards, and bolstering poultry farming.
Officials expect the initiative to significantly contribute to the local economy by enhancing the county’s agricultural output and ensuring sustainable livestock farming practices.
