Uasin Gishu County’s Plan to Set up Modern Chicken Slaughterhouse Gains Momentum

The meeting was centered on the ambitious plan to construct a modern chicken slaughterhouse which is key component of Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim’s Nguzo Kumi development agenda on Agriculture.

Already the county is preparing to award a tender for the construction of the poultry facility, which is set to operate under international standards.

The planned abattoir will play a pivotal role in streamlining poultry processing, improving food safety and expanding market access for local farmers.

Speaking during the meeting, Cheplong expressed confidence in the partnership, emphasizing the importance of Jarvis International’s technical support.

We welcome Jarvis International as a key stakeholder in this transformative project because their global expertise in poultry processing technology and equipment is vital in ensuring the slaughterhouse meets international standards and enhances the efficiency and hygiene of poultry production in our county,” the chief officer said.

Cheplong further called upon the investors to play an active role not only in providing state-of-the-art equipment but also in offering their specialized knowledge throughout the construction and operational phases of the project..

He noted that their guidance will be critical in training local personnel and establishing best practices for the facility.

Veterinary Services Director Dr Philip Biamah noted that the proposed chicken slaughterhouse is part of the county’s broader strategy to promote agricultural value chains and create employment opportunities in rural areas.

In addition, Biamah noted that by improving infrastructure in the livestock sector, the county aims to elevate the quality of local produce, reduce post-harvest losses, and attract more investors into the agribusiness ecosystem.

Jarvis International Director Raymond Cronin welcomed the opportunity to partner with the county government,expressing his readiness to share technical know-how and to work closely with local stakeholders to ensure the project’s success.

The groundbreaking of the Uasin Gishu modern chicken slaughterhouse is expected in the coming months following the conclusion of the tendering process.
