The County Government of Uasin Gishu County has urged property owners to avoid channelling excess rainwater from buildings directly onto roads.
According to the county, the practice significantly damages road infrastructure.
Through the Department of Roads, Transport and Public Works, the county cautioned that runoff water weakens the soil beneath road surfaces, especially during the rainy season.
This often leads to cracking under the weight of traffic and the formation of deep, hazardous potholes.

County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Roads, Abraham Serem, issued the warning on Tuesday, February 24 2026, when he led a team in repair works along sections of the busy Farmers Street in Eldoret.
The team filled and compacted damaged sections where large potholes had developed due to water seepage.
Serem also assured business owners operating along the street that the county is engaging development partners to facilitate the tarmacking of key roads within the city.

He cited the recently completed Barngetuny–Bandaptai Road as an example of the county’s commitment to improving road infrastructure.
