Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim has expressed satisfaction with the pace in which construction works at the Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret are ongoing.
Works at the project had taken longer than expected expected due to financial challenges among other factors.

On Friday, February 20, 2026, Governor Bii joined officials from the Ministry of Defence and Sports Kenya in assessing the stadium.
The governor said they were all happy with the progress made so far.

“During today’s joint assessment with officials from the Ministry of Defence, Sports Kenya led by Director General Timothy Kilimo and the Kenya National Highways Authority, we expressed satisfaction with the improved pace and quality of delivery on site,” Bii said.
The national government is financing the project that will transform Kipchoge Keino Stadium into a 15,000-capacity modern sports facility.

“The transformation of the Kipchoge Keino Stadium is progressing steadily, with the contractor fully mobilized and works advancing on schedule toward completion,” the county boss said.
He also revealed that once the contractor completes works at the stadium, he will proceed to the 64 Stadium whose works hace also stalled.

64 Stadium project is jointly financed by the County Government of Uasin Gishu and the World Bank.
Governor Bii is optimistic that soon the two stadiums will be completed, a move he noted will, “further entrenching Eldoret’s stature as the true City of Champions“.
