Edwin Misoi: Former Uasin Gishu MCa Hospitalised after Attack by Suspected Goons

A former Member of the County Assembly (MCA) in Uasin Gishu County is fighting for his life at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital following a brutal attack in Eldoret’s Central Business District on Friday night.

The former nominated MCA Edwin Misoi was reportedly assaulted by individuals alleged to be associated with a vocal Member of Parliament in Uasin Gishu.

What injuries did Edwin Misoi sustain after attack?

The attack left him with serious head injuries and a fractured leg.

According to Dr. Simiyu Taabu, Head of the Emergency Department at MTRH, Misoi was rushed to the facility shortly before midnight.

He arrived here a few minutes to midnight, around 11:30 to 11:37 p.m., and was immediately taken to the acute emergency unit,” said Dr. Taabu who confirmed that the former MCA sustained multiple injuries.

He had blunt trauma to the head, chest and abdomen, as well as injuries to the left lower limb. We conducted the necessary CT scans and X-rays. He has moderate head injuries and a fracture of the left lower limb bone. His condition is currently stable,” Dr. Taabu stated.

Former nominated Uasin Gishu MCA Edwin Misoi. He is admitted at MTRH in Eldoret following attacks by suspected goons.

He added that Misoi had been attended to by emergency physicians, general surgeons and neurosurgeons and would remain under close observation in the acute emergency room before being transferred to the neurosurgical ward.

Why was former MCA Edwin Misoi attacked?

Misoi’s family described the attack as an attempted murder and called on police to swiftly arrest those responsible.

I received the report at around 6:00 a.m. He was beaten at around 11 p.m. with an object that had nails on it. When I came to see him, he was in a very bad condition,” said the former MCA’s father who dismissed claims that the attack could have been linked to personal debts.

If there were any debts, as a family we would have been ready to settle them. They should not beat or attempt to kill my son because of politics,” he said.

He further revealed that his son had previously raised concerns about threats to his life over his political stand in Kapseret Sub-County.

I am demanding justice. All those involved in injuring my son must be arrested,” he added.

Are there goons in Uasin Gishu?

Eldoret-based human rights activist Kimutai Kirui condemned the incident, terming it part of a worrying pattern of political violence.

This is not the first reported case of political goons attacking dissenting voices, especially in Kapseret Sub-County,” Kirui said, further alleging the existence of organized groups funded by politicians.

We have over 300 political goons in Eldoret who are being funded by politicians, some of whom are serving in the Uasin Gishu County Government,” he claimed.

Misoi’s is an ally of Senator Jackson Mandago who has been at loggerheads with Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim and Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi over the 2027 General Election.
