Hundreds of Uasin Gishu residents on Monday, September 5, 2022, took to the streets of Eldoret town to celebrate the Supreme Court ruling which upheld Dr William Samoei Ruto’s win.
Seven judges at the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that Ruto was validly declared as the president-elect.
And following the declaration, the residents blocked the busy Uganda road for over three hours while celebrating the win.
Speaking during the celebrations, the locals applauded the Supreme Court for upholding Ruto’s August 9 poll win.

They said they are now expecting him to implement the bottom-up economic model he pledged during his campaigns.
“We are very happy that the Supreme Court upheld his win and we want him to deliver what he promised us in his manifesto,” said Clinton Kimutai a local.
On his part, Fred Too, also a local in Uasin Gishu credited the President-elect’s success to prayers and hard work.
Further, he urged the residents and Kenyans to be peaceful as they worked together to build the country.
Transition
“We should maintain peace and work together to build the country,” Too said.

Following the dismissal of the petition that had challenged the presidential election results, Ruto will now be sworn in as the fifth President on Tuesday, September 13, 2022.
Article 141 of the Kenyan constitution requires that the president-elect should be sworn in 14 days after the declaration of results by the national poll agency.
But following the petition, the swearing-in had to be halted until the apex court gives its verdict.
The outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta has already constituted the Assumption of Office Committee to oversee the transition.
According to the final presidential results announced by IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, Ruto garnered 7,176,141 votes to be declared the winner against former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who garnered 6,942,930 votes.
