Access to healthcare in county-run hospitals within Uasin Gishu are set for a major improvement.
On Monday, September 16, 2024, the county received a consignment of drugs worth Ksh43 million from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KeMSA).
The drugs will be supplied to all health facilities in the country.
Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim flagged off the distribution process at the county headquarters in Eldoret City.
“This morning, I flagged off Ksh 43 million consignment of drugs from KEMSA, which is now being distributed to all 138 healthcare facilities across the county,” Chelilim said.

The county boss however expressed concerns over delays by KeMSA to deliver what is ordered.
Currently, the law dictates that devolved units can only procure drugs and medical supplies through the state agency.
“Despite placing our orders well in advance, persistent delays and inadequate supplies have disrupted healthcare services across counties, due to KEMSA’s monopoly on drug distribution,” the governor said.
“I urge the Ministry of Health to expedite the procurement process to ensure timely deliveries and uninterrupted healthcare services for our residents,” he added.

Meanwhile, the county boss said his administration was fully committed to strengthening and expanding healthcare services to meet the needs of our community.
Later in the day, the governor, accompanied by Health County Executive Committee Member Abraham Serem and Kapseret Member of County Assembly (MCA) Moses Kebei witnessed delivery of some of the drugs at the Kapteldon Sub County Hospital.

“We have streamlined the distribution process by delivering consignments straight to the 138 facilities across the county, bypassing the central drug store,” governor Bii said.
“Health is our second pillar, and it remains a top priority and that is why we are dedicating significant resources to this vital sector,” he added.
