Eldoret town will in August 2023 be hosting the 8th Devolution Conference. The town will also be the first one in hosting the now-changed event which will be held after every two years.
As the hosting county, Uasin Gishu has been tasked with making preparations for the conference that will bring together governors, Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) and other staff from across the 47 counties as well as those from the national government.
President William Ruto is expected to officially open the conference that will start on August 15, 2023.
Eldoret Sports Club will be hosting the main event for the conference with the Kipchoge Keino Stadium also set to host sports events.
As part of its role in the Devolution Conference, the county has allocated Ksh50 million to facilitate preparations.
Members of the Uasin Gishu County Assembly last week voted to approve a change in the County Fiscal Strategy Paper (CFSP) to increase an allocation for the conference from the initial figure of Ksh7 million to Ksh50 billion.
Trade and investment opportunities
The amount was also factored in the Ksh9.8 billion budget that Finance and Economic Planning County Executive Micah Rogony presented to the MCAs.
“The county is privileged to host the 8th Devolution Conference from 15th to 19th August 2023 themed ‘10 Years of Devolution: The Present and the Future’. The conference will bring together local and international delegates to discuss, learn and share best practices on pertinent issues affecting counties and will provide trade and investment opportunities for communities in our county and the neighbouring counties,” CECM Rogony said in his budget statement.
“Towards this, we have allocated KSh50,000,000 (50 million) and set up a steering committee to spearhead the preparation ahead of the conference,” he added.
Among the preparations that the county is making for the first biennial conference is improving road works around the Eldoret Sports Club and paving sidewalks as well as street lights within the Eldoret town centre.
