Institutions of higher learning in Eldoret town have been challenged to invest in strengthening their security systems.
Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Dr Eddyson Nyale says with proper security arrangements, the institutions will be able to ensure the students, the majority of who are the youth, get a conducive learning environment.
Dr Nyale further says enhanced security will protect the students from being exposed to retrogressive practices like drug abuse and radicalization.
“We’re encouraging that high learning institutions strengthen security arrangements so that youths are within a conducive environment and they are not intoxicated, radicalized or exposed to retrogressive practices like drug abuse,” said the county commissioner.

The county security boss further asked the learning institutions to work closely with the police and collaborate on the best way to enhance security for their students.
Eldoret is regarded as an Education hub for the North Rift region with two public universities and at least three other university campuses.
The town eyeing the city status also has over 20 colleges and other institutions of higher learning.
Private Security Authority
In the meantime, Dr Nyale said the private security industry is soon expected to be improved with the government planning to set up the Kenya Private Security Regulatory Authority.
The authority with its main offices in Nairobi will have the North Rift regional office in Eldoret town seeks to enhance and strengthen the private security sector.

“The authority will capacity build private security agencies,” noted the county commissioner adding that “security is an enabler in the realization of vision 2030.”
The Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) is a State Corporation whose mandate is to provide a framework of regulation of the Private Security Services industry and to provide a forum of cooperation between the Private Security Service industry and State Security Agencies.
It was established under section 7 of the Private Security Regulation Act no.13 of 2016.
