Just like a car that requires fuel for peak performance, our bodies demand proper nutrition for sustained functionality,” said Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii adding that “it is in this context that I call on all of us to focus on the pursuit of wellness because it is a catalyst for heightened alertness while also ensuring a steadfast focus on productivity.”

The governor spoke during the launch of wellness week where he expressed the need to spearhead initiatives such as frequent team-building events by fostering not only health but also a sense of solidarity among the staff.

“I call upon all staff members to adopt healthy habits that contribute to a holistic, healthy lifestyle that involves mindful eating and increased physical activity, especially those accustomed to driving to consider occasional walks for their well-being,” Bii said.

“...let us all view this wellness week as a stepping stone towards a healthier lifestyle because it is more about prioritizing a healthier future for all of us,” he added.

Cost of medical services

Governor Bii also said prevention was better than cure hence his administration had put preventive measures to cushion residents against the high cost of curative services.

He further asked members of the public to visit County health facilities for testing services.

The event was also graced by Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang Nyong’o and his Vihiga counterpart Dr Otichillo Wilbur, who said the Council of Governor is working on modalities to ensure health is fully devolved and well financed.

On his part, Deputy Governor Eng John Barorot encouraged the staff to seek medical services from County facilities which he said have relevant medical equipment to diagnose various conditions.

Vihiga Deputy Governor Wilberforce Kitieso also highlighted the need to have a healthy workforce. He noted that there was a need to conduct benchmark exercises across the Counties to identify corporate engagements among the staff.

In addition, Health Services County Executive Committee Member, Dr Abraham Serem, said among the ongoing screening include sugar levels, blood pressure, cancer screening and HIV/AIDS.

He further noted that early diagnosis ensures preventive measures are emphasized.

County Executive Committee Member for Public Service Management Elijah Kosgei who also attended the event said the day stands as a fundamental moment as they embark on a dedicated wellness week under the banner of Promoting a Healthy Workforce because a healthy worker is a productive worker.
