Governor Simon Kachapin and members of the West Pokot County Assembly have agreed to put aside their political differences and focus on service delivery and development of the county.
Speaking during the County Assembly Committees’ induction workshop on Review of Standing Orders and Parliament Practices and Procedures, Governor Kachapin committed to maintaining the spirit of open door policy to the members of the House, which he said, will yield immense benefits to the people of West Pokot.
“Parties are vehicles. We don’t need to make enemies of each other. We are burying our differences and we will work together,” said the governor.
The governor who was flanked by his deputy Robert Komolle applauded the Third Assembly for having maintained continuous consultations with the County Executive which has enabled the swift implementation of county projects and ensured the continued availability of services to the electorate.
“After five years, we want to have delivered on our mandate. That’s the spirit of this administration,” emphasized the governor.
Service delivery
Echoing the governor’s sentiments, DG Komolle urged the county assembly members to work seamlessly with the executive to ensure the county delivers on its promises.
Key issues discussed include; bursary disbursement, enhanced collaboration between the two arms, employment, and health care among other key areas.
West Pokot County Assembly Speaker Fred Siywat on his part called for an enhanced collaborative system of government. He noted that there were many areas of priority and hence the need to work together to actualize them.
The MCAs led by Majority and Minority Leaders Martin Komong’iro and Peter Lokor respectively, applauded the decision by the governor to roll out bursary disbursement and equip health facilities with enough personnel and assorted medical supplies.
They further committed to putting aside any political differences and working to improve livelihoods.
The induction workshop will also equip the Committee’s members to formulate strategies and programmes for the development of the County Assembly.
