Local leaders from West Pokot County led by Deputy Governor Robert Komolle together with County Commissioner Apollo Okello have agreed to establish a police post between Lami Nyeusi and Marich Pass.
This is a move meant to protect residents from constant attacks from criminals.
During a meeting with county residents at Lami Nyeusi following the killing of 5 gold miners Wednesday night, Komolle said it was time to establish a police post to bring peace in the volatile area that has seen many losses of lives over the years.
He also asked the security team led by County Police Commandant Peter Katam to conduct police patrols in areas affected by insecurity.

While rebuking the attacks, the deputy county boss asked Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to take decisive action against insecurity in the Pokot-Turkana border, protecting civilians from both counties.
Further, County Commissioner Okello and Police Commandant Katam asked the residents to collaborate with Sub County Police Commanders and police officers deployed in the area to report suspicious activity to curtail potential crime.
The two also noted that National Police Reservists (NPR) would be recruited and issued firearms to assist in maintaining security and stability in the area.
