The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) courses have emerged as the most in-demand amongst students.
This was evident in the recently concluded placement of the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary School Education (KCSE) examination.
According to the Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, out of the available 34,048 KMTC slots, there were 52,725 applications.
During the KMTC March 2025 intake, there were 6,750 applicants with a C+ and above who chose the college over university options.
“In total, 25,034 students have been placed in KMTC programmes,” the CS said.
Why students prefer joining KMTC over university
According to KMTC, more students prefer joining them instead of enrolling for a degree course due to their being sought out across the globe and their state-of-the-art technology and modern training facilities.
“Our customer-centric culture prioritizes students above all,” KMTC noted.
Access to HELB support which makes medical education more affordable is another reasons for more youths seeking to join KMTC.
Application to join the college that has campuses across the country is still open on the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) portal.
Dateline for applications is July 7.

Meanwhile, the Education CS revealed that most of the students who applied to join KMTC picked one specific course – Nursing.
“With a cumulative of 2,986, Diploma and Certificate in Nursing attracted the highest number of applicants at 27,000. This is an indication that the demand for nursing continues to grow,” CS Ogamba said.
There was also a high number of 2024 KCSE candidates who applied to be selected for Clinical Medicine and Surgery, Medical Emergency Technician, and Community Health.
