Five suspects linked to the brutal murder of LGBTQ+ activist Edwin Chiloba were on January 9, 2023, arraigned before an Eldoret court.
The five were arrested by police officers on diverse dates within Eldoret town.
Among those that were presented before the court is the prime suspect Jackton Odhiambo who the police arrested on January 6, 2022.
Odhiambo has been identified as a Nairobi-based freelance photographer and a close friend to the late Chiloba.
Four other suspects, according to court documents are Ramsi Chepwao, Jean Ochieng, Emanuel Omondi and Dennis Litali.

They were arrested between January 7, and January 8, 2023, within the Huruma estate.
But while the five were presented before Senior Principal Magistrate Richard Odenyi, they did not take a plea. Instead, the police requested to be allowed to hold them for 21 more days so as to finalize their investigations.
Moved belongings
Mumba Stephen, in his affidavit to support the application noted that the prime suspect in the murder case Jackton Odhiambo was found with some of the deceased belongings that are yet to be subjected to forensic examination.
“At the time of the arrest, the respondent, Jackton Odhiambo stated that he shifted the deceased belonging to his house in Huruma where some were recovered and they are yet to be subjected to forensic examination,” states the investigative officer.
He also told the court that the four other suspects have admitted to helping the prime suspect in moving a metal box that had the deceased body from the house to a vehicle.

The court granted the police their request. This means the suspects will remain in police custody until January 31, 2023, when the matter will be mentioned.
The body of the late Chiloba, also a fashion designer was discovered in a metal box that a vehicle without a number plate dropped along Kipkenyo-Kaptinga road last week.
Police have since impounded the vehicle suspected to have been used to move the body from the activist’s house in Chebisaas Village, where he is suspected to have been killed.
