82 Uasin Gishu students who enrolled to study Animal Health course at Egerton University graduated on March 24, 2023.
Of the 82 students, 57 were awarded certificates while 25 graduated with diplomas.
The graduation of the students who joined the university in 2019 was attended by Chief Officer for Education And Vocational Training Ruth Samoei.
All the students were fully sponsored by the County Government of Uasin Gishu.
Governor Jonathan Bii in a speech read on his behalf by the Chief Officer, challenged the university to add more courses relevant to the county such as animal production.
The Governor further said his administration was keen to expand the partnership with the University.
“It is also important to note that, as part of the milestones achieved by the county, the courses are now marketable and attracting a good number of students,” the Governor said in part of the speech read by the Chief Officer.
Youth empowerment
“Your training in various disciplines gives a lot of hope to all of us, owing to its huge transformational potential,” he added.
Governor Bii also affirmed counties’ commitment to supporting youth empowerment through market-driven training remains steadfast.
In his address, Prof. Caleb Orenge, Egerton University Dean Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery said the students have been trained and indexed by the Kenya Veterinary Board.
“We’re handing over to you people who are well cooked, well qualified and we believe they will make a difference,” said Prof. Orenge.
Similar sentiments were shared by Prof Benard Aduda, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Academic Affairs who said the animal health course was tailor-made to meet the needs of Uasin Gishu County.
Revolving Fund officer Wilson Tanui and Education Officer William Morogo accompanied the Chief Officer to the graduation.
