An Eldoret Muslim leader has taken legal action against the Attorney General and the Registrar of Societies in a long-standing row over an alleged illegal registration of a Muslim Association in the city.
Jamal Diriwo Omari has, for a year now, been pursuing information on the registration status of the Eldoret Muslim Mosque Association.
Omari believes a group of Muslim leaders in Eldoret had fraudulently registered a different association, the Muslim Association Mosque Committee, but were purporting to represent the Muslim Association Mosque Committee, Eldoret, originally registered several decades ago.
Why investigaitons into the forgery of the Eldoret Muslim Association registration has delayed
He has since written to the Registrar of Societies seeking information on the registration status of the two entities he argues are different, but to date, no progress has been made.

The matter is also before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Eldoret, with detectives probing the matter facing the same challenge as they are yet to get the information needed from the Registrar of Societies to finalise the probe despite requesting the same.
It is on this basis that Omari has now sought help from the Commission on Administrative Justice to compel the state agency to release the said information.
Is Eldoret Muslim leader Jamal Diriwo in danger?
In a letter dated March 2, 2026, the Muslim leader lamented that the delay in releasing information on the registration status of the two associations was putting his life in danger.
“Since March 14, 2025, to date, the Registrar of Societies has failed to facilitate the investigation report to the DCI offices, which has put the life of the whistleblower in danger,” read part of the letter seen by Uasin Gishu News.
Among the information the Muslim leader had demanded from the Registrar of Societies that would have helped hasten the probe into the matter included registration dates for the two associations, names of the office bearers as per the registration documents, articles of memorandum of the association, as well as physical location, address, telephone number and emails.
Omari had previously claimed individuals purporting to be officials from the Muslim Association Mosque Committee, Eldoret, were mismanaging muslim assets running into billions of shillings.
The matter over their legality of being in office has been under probe by the DCI, but the failure by the Registrar of Societies to share information related to the two associations has delayed the case.

So far, the DCI has recorded statements from some of the Muslim leaders accused of forging the registration certificate, and the only remaining part of the investigations was information on the registration status of the association.
Mandate of the Commission on Administrative Justice
The Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ), where the Eldoret Muslim leader has sued the two state agencies, investigates complaints of delay, inaction, inefficiency, discourtesy, abuse of power, unfair treatment, manifest injustice, or unlawful conduct by public officers or institutions at both national and county levels.
It also oversees compliance with the right to access public information, including investigating denials, refusals, or delays in providing information.
