Bishop Kimengich Christmas Message to Kenyans: Pray For Peace

Eldoret Catholic Diocese Bishop Dominic Kimengich is asking Kenyans to pray for peace to prevail in the country, especially ahead of the 2022 general election.

Bishop Kimengich also called on Christians to pray for political leaders so that they also become champions of peace and cohesion.

Speaking at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Eldoret town during a Christmas mass, the clergy said with political campaigns set to officially kick-off, it is not yet clear how the situation would be, hence the need for divine intervention.

“We need to pray so that we remain peaceful ahead of the 2022 poll. We don’t know how the campaigns will be but we know for sure that it is only God who will ensure we remain peaceful and cohesive,” said Bishop Kimengich.

He also challenged Kenyans to always focus on maintaining peace irrespective of their political affiliation.

With the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) expected to officially gazette the 2022 general election date, campaigns are expected to go a notch higher across the country.

But even with the campaigns, Bishop Kimengich is challenging members of the public not to drop their guard – as far as curbing the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic is concerned.

“We also need to pray for the country to be able to come out of the Covid-19 pandemic and the new omicron variant. Let us keep wearing masks, keeping social distance, and washing hands regularly,” said Bishop Kimengich.

The Catholic clergy also wants Christians to find time to pray for peace in Kerio Valley – a region that has witnessed regular insecurity issues as a result of cattle rustling and banditry.

It is estimated that at least 47 people have been killed in the region as a result of recent incidences of insecurity that also emanate from the fight for resources – among them water, pasture for livestock, and boundaries row.
