Buzeki Explains Why He Has Yet to Launch His 2027 Political Campaign

Uasin Gishu businessman and politician Zedekiah Kiprop Bundotich alias Buzeki has explained why he has yet to hit the campaign trail ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The former Uasin Gishu gubernatorial candidate says he is currently focused on business, job creation and supporting development efforts rather than early political mobilisation.

In a video he shared on his verified Facebook page amid growing questions from supporters about his political plans, Buzeki dismissed concerns that time is running out for him to engage voters, insisting that every person has a role to play and his present responsibility lies outside elective office.

“Watu wengi wako na ngori na mimi, ooh haukuji ground, time ndio hizo zinayoyoma lakini nawaambia sasa mimi niko job, unajua kila mtu ako na kazi yake,” he said.

The businessman noted that elected leaders and government officials have a mandate to oversee public institutions, attend government meetings and implement development programmes, while those in the private sector contribute through investment and job creation.

Buzeki said his work currently involves supporting initiatives that complement government efforts, including creating employment opportunities for young people and attracting investors into the country.

“Mimi kwa sasa ni hustler. Ile pengo serikali haiwezi kufanya pia sisi tunasaidia,” he said, adding that businesses play a critical role in strengthening the economy and supporting national development.

“Tunaajiri vijana wengine, tunapeleka hata China, tunaleta wawekezaji wakuje Kenya. Pia sisi tuko kazi, tunasaidia serikali kujenga,” he said.

Which seat will Buzeki vie for in 2027?

While stopping short of making any formal declaration regarding the 2027 race, Buzeki indicated that there will be time for political engagement once the election season officially begins.

“Wakati firimbi ya siasa itapigwa tutakuja tusemezane na mtaniambia kama tutafika bei. Tukiafikiana tutaenda safari pamoja,” he said.

The former gubernatorial aspirant, who is currently abroad, emphasised that political journeys are built on a shared vision between leaders and citizens, saying any future political direction would be a collective decision made through consultations with the public.

He further urged patience, arguing that abandoning productive economic activities too early for politics would be counterproductive.

“Hakuna haraka sana. Tukiwacha hizi kazi tunafanya halafu itakuaje? Na siasa ikikuja inataka uwe full ndio ukishikwa unashikamana,” he said.

His remarks are likely to fuel speculation about his next political move, even as he insists that for now, his priority remains business growth, youth employment and attracting investment rather than early campaigning.
