Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has challenged health workers to prioritize and demonstrate strong work ethics in their roles.
He expressed concern that some health workers were overly focused on seeking promotions to higher positions, neglecting their primary duty of caring for and treating patients.
Governor Natembeya made the remarks while addressing an audience in Kwanza during the groundbreaking ceremony for construction of Kwanza Primary Hospital Maternity Unit.

The project, costing Ksh32 million, is a collaborative effort between Safaricom and the Trans Nzoia County Government.
Natembeya affirmed that health department directors and their assistants should not only concentrate on administrative tasks but also actively engage in patient care at health centres to improve service delivery.
“Even if you’re promoted to a management position, you shouldn’t abandon your core duty. Service delivery remains paramount,” the county boss emphasized.
He also shared concerning statistics, revealing that out of 100,000 deliveries in Kwanza Sub-County, 287 women and children lose their lives during childbirth.
Further, the governor expressed disappointment that only 29% of deliveries in Kwanza were attended by skilled professionals, whereas the overall county average was 70%.

Governor Natembeya projected that the new hospital would be completed within five months.
Meanwhile, he warned that any attempts by health officials to steal or mismanage drugs would not be tolerated.
He asserted that such individuals would face arrest and apprehension.
The governor encouraged residents to make use of their insurance coverage by seeking services at public hospitals, emphasizing their high-quality offerings.
