Chepsaita Cross Country: Governor Bii Proposes Framework to Tie Sports and Academics

Uasin Gishu Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii has reiterated that sports can be strengthened and harnessed to improve education standards in Kenya.

The Governor says discipline and dedication, being the pillars of excellence in sports, can be used as a tool to attain and influence excellence in education.

Speaking as he hosted Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kinduki at the 2024 Chepsaita Cross Country in Uasin Gishu, Dr. Bii asked curriculum developers to find frameworks to tie academics and sports excellence.

The race, which attracted up to 10,000 participants across the categories, bade to raise funds to pay school fees for children from humble backgrounds.

Cabinet Secretaries Kipchumba Murkomen (Sports), Dr Alfred Mutua (Social Protection), Principal Secretaries and senior government officers attended and watched the athletics action. Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea also attended.

County Executive for Sports, Eng Lucy Ng’endo and several other CECMs, and Chief Officers led by Sports’ Mark Some and other senior county officials were also present to witness the action.

Legendary, famed and budding athletes also got to share their experiences and advice with upcoming stars.
