Leaders and residents of Chesegon at the border of Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot counties gathered in their numbers for prayers for peace to prevail in the area.
Catholic clergy from Nakuru, Lodwar and Eldoret dioceses led by Eldoret Bishop Dominic Kimengich presided over the prayers for sustenance of the prevailing peace in Kerio Valley.
Bishop Kimengich said the Church will actively play its part, walk the peace journey with locals to ensure the valley is a bastion of peace and development.
The prayer also brought together leaders and residents from neighbouring Baringo County.

Speaking at the event, Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich said he and his West Pokot counterpart, Governor Simon Kachapin had resolved to reopen Chesegon market, which flourished in the past before insecurity caused by banditry led to its closure.
“A committee from both communities will be established to oversee its opening and see our people re-integrate and do business once again,” he said.
The Kerio Valley has for years witnessed insecurity often caused by regular bandit attacks.
However, there has been efforts from various stakeholders including religious leaders, politicians and the civil society to address the issue.

In the last few months, there has also been Operation Maliza Uhalifu North Rift which has significantly reduced the attacks.
