The Kenya Institute of Mass Communications (KIMC) Eldoret campus is expected to be fully operational by the end of July 2023.
Construction of tuition block for the campus is scheduled to start before the end of the year.
Currently, the KIMC Eldoret Campus is operating from Home Craft in Pioneer estate, a facility of the County Government of Uasin Gishu.
However, the county already donated 10 acres of land within Kiambaa area where the campus will be set up.
According to Wilson Yego, the Eldoret KIMC campus director, so far construction works for the fence around the land are ongoing.
“We expect the fence to be complete by November 2022 after which construction of the tuition blocs will commence,” Yego told Uasin Gishu News.
Ksh100m for tuition block
Already, the government has allocated Ksh100 million to facilitate the construction of the tuition block.
“We will have a modern tuition block and studio for learning at the campus. We expect to be ready by the end of July 2023,” he said.
KIMC Eldoret campus admitted its first batch of students in 2019.
Initially, the campus was offering certificate in Film production only but it is now set to upgrade to more courses.
“We started with certificate in film production but as we speak, we have diploma students. We’re upgrading students that had certificates to diploma,” noted the KIMC Eldoret campus director.
“In January 2023, we will also be receiving the first batch of students for broadcast journalism,” he added.
Well equipped
Yego assures that the campus is ready to receive more students as they have sufficient trained teachers and equipment to prepare learners for the current job market demand in Journalism and Film Industry.
So far, there are at least 50 students at the campus enrolled in a variety of courses among them Film production, video and audio editing, script writing and film directing.
The KIMC held its first graduation in 2021 where former Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago was the chief guest.
KIMC’s main campus is in Nairobi. It is one of the premier institutions recognized not only in Kenya but also across East Africa as an institution that offers quality training in communication film production and related fields.
