President William Ruto on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, presided over the launch of construction works for the Eldoret Ultra-Modern market.
Speaking during the event held at the proposed site for the market within Eldoret Town Centre, the President said the facility will accommodate more than 4,000 traders.
He said the project is part of his administration’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for traders.
“Presided over the launch of the construction of the Eldoret 64 Ultra-Modern market that will accommodate more than 4,000 traders, Uasin Gishu County,” the President said in an update on his social media pages.

“Our plan to provide a conducive business environment to our small traders across the country is firmly on course,” he added.
The new project will be built within a plot that previously housed the Champions Retail market which was closed in November 2022 following a clash between traders and county enforcement officers.
It is estimated that the national government will use Ksh6 billion for the project that will be a landmark in the soon-to-be city.
Affordable Housing Projects in Eldoret
Earlier in the day, the President laid a foundation stone For the Kapsuswa Affordable Housing Project in Soy Sub-County and commissioned the Pioneer Affordable Housing Project in Kapseret Sub-County.
The Kapsuwa project will see 220 housing units built with more than 500 youth engaged directly and over 3,000 other indirect jobs created.

Further, the Pioneer Housing Affordable Housing Project is for 1,506 units that according to the President will generate 10,000 jobs.
“The bold implementation of the Government’s Housing Programme will ensure that Kenyans have access to affordable and decent shelter,” Ruto said.
“This programme will also create jobs and enhance the quality of life of our youth. We cannot delay this transformation any further,” he added.
